“If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember this whole thing was started by a mouse.” —Walt Disney
Do you have dreams that you think are small? Or are they big and seem to be unreachable?
As I begin this blog, I am thinking of the past month of my life. I went on a journey. A quest to see my daughter, she who I chose not to raise myself. A child that was not unwanted but one that I wanted more for. I interviewed her parents, I hand-picked them. She was a gift to them and to me. And what a blessing she was and is. She just completed her GED and I attended her graduation along with my sister and younger son.
We, my sister and son, drove out to California to join in celebrating her accomplishment. And what a trek it was! There are so many varied landscapes between Central Texas and Northern California. There is desert, mountains, farmland, rolling hills, small towns and big cities. We got off the beaten path and ventured into places of great beauty. We saw trees that were saplings when Christ was born, that now tower in a quiet forest. But the greatest and most beautiful was my daughter.
The first time I felt her move, I thought something had crawled under my shirt! Like a mouse, perhaps, a tiny movement, like a wiggle, a stirring of life. And the dream of finding a family for her was solidified. I knew they were out there and my determination to find them was unstoppable. Through research, determination and pure luck, I found what I was looking for.
When I was looking up at that 2000 year old Sequoia and held a tiny Sequoia cone in my hand, I understood that the biggest things do start out very small. Like a cartoon mouse. Disney did not dream of theme parks or a multi-billion dollar industry. He drew a silly mouse, whistling, driving a boat on the Mississippi. I dreamt of a family to love and nurture my daughter. I dream of many other things now. Some are small, some are HUGE. But I know that if I didn’t have dreams and aspirations, I would never be able to be who I am.
So, dream small, dream BIG but DREAM!! You never know what kind of seeds you may be planting!
May your week be as fruitful as I will try to make mine!
